Although all government Crowns and departments are supposed to stop advertising during an election, by law, advertising continues unabated.
This billboard is across from the SIAST campus in PA. You can clearly see the Saskatchwan Community Resources logo, bottom left.
NDP Boogeyman operatives are all over the province...

s 277 of the Elections Act of SK prohibits this!
I could have sworn that there was an exception for government advertising which is of an operational or necessary nature, ie boil water advisories or the like. Given that this has nothing to do with anybody's election promises, I fail to see the problem with it, given that it would be operational for SCR. Please correct me if I'm wrong about the exception.
This is what the Electiosn Act states:
277(1) In this section, “Government department” means any department,
board, commission, Crown corporation or agency of the Government of Saskatchewan.
(2) During a general election, no Government department shall publish in any
manner any information with respect to the activities of the department.
(3) During a by-election, no Government department shall publish in any manner
in the constituency any information with respect to the activities of the department.
(4) During a by-election in a constituency that includes, in whole or in part, a city
having a population exceeding 20,000 inhabitants, no Government department
shall publish in any manner in that city any information with respect to the
activities of the Government department.
(5) Subsections (2) to (4) do not apply to:
(a) information that, because of an emergency, is required to be published in
the public interest; or
(b) advertising by a Crown corporation that was contracted prior to the issue
of a writ and is related to the Crown corporation’s competitive business
interests.
the exception in 5 (a) is for "emergencies, in the public interest"; this hardly qualifies: unless the tie-in to the NDP adds about renters is an emergency in teh public interest?
Calver and Quennel where on teh CTV news tonight (Nov 1); meeting with rentrs to hear their concerns; you can;t tell me that ilegal gov ads about renters are an accident.
You're telling me that it isn't an emergency that the NDP may lose seats in three swing ridings in the province? There's just no pleasing you folks.
:)
Thanks for the reply. I knew there were exceptions, just wasn't sure where the line was drawn. So perhaps Mr. Calvert should explain this billboard, eh?
there were Sasktel billboards up in downtown Saskatoon 2 weeks ago that were advertising "NEW LOWER RATES!"
