He's Just Not Trying Anymore - Redux

There is a stock radio ad playing right now on Newstalk650

It describes the NDP platform and ends with the necessary scare campaign against Brad Wall and the Sask Party.

At the end of the ad, there is a candidate mentioned with the constituency. The quote for the Premier is "In Saskatoon Riverdale, Vote for Lorne Calvert."

The problem is that the name of the constituency is Saskatoon Riversdale... with an "s".

The first time I heard this ad, I thought my hearing was off. Then I heard it again.

Newstalk650 was a big NDP buy. You would think that a) this was important enough to get right and b) since it is the Premier's constituency, that they would want to make sure no mistakes were made as it may reflect badly on him...

I don't care what celebrities the Premier may bring into the constituency, particularly since he avoids Riversdale like the plague for the other 3 years and 11 months of his term, but saying the name wrong in an ad is insulting to the citizens of that of community.

His handlers must be completely incompetent for letting something like this go...

No wonder there is a thought that the Sask Party candidate Fred Ozirney is leading in Saskatoon Riversdale...

I didn't know he was the candidate in Archie and Jughead's riding. Cool!

Not sure about any Archies, but there are definitetly some Jugheads in the NDP...

Okay. For the clueless, tell me what your last sentence implies. I know nothing about this Fred Ozirney, but as I was reading the entry about Riversdale constituency the thought entered my mind that perhaps Claverts handlers are doing all this deliberately. Maybe there's a soft coup going on in the upper reaches of the party. After 75 years of socialism, the gig's up and no one believes in it any more. Just like the collapse of the Soviet Union.

I'm also wondering how Tom Jackson, talented though he may be, has any right to weigh in in support of any party or candidate. He isn't a resident of this province, and as far as I know, he never has been. I can see big unions with union brass who live elsewhere weighing in, since they have members in the province, but entertainers???

Riversdale has been long thought as one of the safest seat for any NDP candidate. The last two NDP premiers have run in elections there (Romanow won in 1986, but lost in 1982 to the Devine sweep, and Clavert won the seat in a by-election). True to form for the NDP, the majority of Riversdale is in very bad shape, basically neglected by the NDP. The only attention anyone gives to the riding is during an election campaign.

Fred Ozirney has been finding what other Sask Party candidates have been finding; utter contempt for the NDP, so much that there could be the possibility of an upset in what is considered a safe seat for Calvert.

If your wondering what Tom Jackson is doing here, what about Tommy's seed, Shirley Douglas? That jerk only steps into this province during an election campaign to tell us how great pops was, and then she leaves. If it was so great here, she would have stayed....

Nest time you pray to whatever gods you worship, give thanks that Shirley doesn't live here.

FYI, Tom Jackson was born on a Cree "nation" in central Saskatchewan. He lived there until he was 10 or 11, then the family moved to Winnipeg.

So is it time for the Sask Party to apologize for insulted the entire province, along with the community of Kamsack? Or does that kind of criticism only apply when it's the NDP involved?

There's another typo in every one of the new 'Grant Devine' floating head ads. The ad states, "(. . .) and nearly bankrupt our province."

Correct me if I'm wrong, but isn't it bankrupted when using the past tense?

the jurist,

Good question. The NDP took great pride in exposing Mr. Wall for a couple of spelling mistakes that were, of course, done by production assistants.

This NDP mistake was also done probably by a production assistant.

However, if the NDP want to set the rules, they have to play that game when the ball wobbles over to their side.

Finally, this is a site that only exposes NDP screw-ups, as per the banner.

If you haven't noticed, I'm partisan....

No doubt the spelling and pronunciation problems were likely a matter of minor mistakes by lower-level operatives in all of those cases - and I'll even grant that some NDP supporters likely made a bigger deal of the Sask Party's mistakes than was warranted. But if you recognize that, can it then be anything but fundamentally dishonest to label it as "insulting" (but only when it comes from the NDP)?

Partisanship is fair enough. But if you can't make a partisan point without applying such a blatant double standard, that speaks volumes about the relative merits of the parties involved.

Speaking of ironic spelling mistakes, several months ago I came across a website belonging to a teachers' organization dealing with literacy which had the word Saskatchewan spelled wrong.
