"We ran a good campaign. We campaigned on our principles and our values... Friends tonight we leave government, but we leave with heads held high."
The truth is the the NDP and Mr. Calvert did not run a good campaign. They ran a terrible campaign. Their policies received no traction and the party was undisciplined, by their own standards (as witnessed by the SaskHATchewan Weyburn-Big Muddy candidate).
That aside, the reason why they lost is they just weren't honest. Worse yet, they tried to pin dishonesty on their opponents.
Shakespeare said it best, "Me thinks thou dost protest too much". This was the way the NDP acted.
They lied about their accomplishments (14 consecutive balanced budgets) and about the intent of the Sask Party (Enterprise Saskatchewan means Privatization).
Rather than run on their record, which was full of lies and missteps (Fodey's severance, Carriere, the NDP caucus fraud scandal, the lie about the PST), they tried to pin their lack or values and moral judgement on their opponents.
They tried to buy the election with their drug plan, much as Romanow did in 1999 with the free university tuition, but they couldn't.
The fact is the people in Saskatchewan are more pragmatic than political.
They like honest people. The like decent people. And they have an inherent sense of fairness.
The NDP called their opponents names. The NDP lied about the person Brad was and what he was going to do if was elected.
These seem to be the values Calvert refers to in his concession speech. And maybe Calvert still doesn't get it.
When Calvert tried to convince voters about the dangers of Big Brad Wolf, people got angry.
When people call someone you like a name, it says nothing about that person. It says something about the name caller though.
Now some of you may ask if that was the case what happened to the other 48% of the people that didn't vote for Brad.
I submit that the people of Saskatchewan are very cautious. They still aren't sure about the Sask Party brand quite yet, but were willing to give them a chance. Because Saskatchewan people do step out... every time they plant a crop, they step out.
My prediction is that if the Sask Party run their government the way they ran this campaign, there will be a larger mandate given to the Sask Party on Nov. 07th/2011.
The Sask Party realized that the first thing do after becoming elected was not to set the election dates.
It was to keep their word.
And that's something that the voters no longer believed the NDP wanted to do or were capable of doing.
It all boiled down to honesty...

That's The Ballgame, Folks...
Ladies and gentlemen, this is my second past post for this election campaign.
The next one will be to post the numbers and to give my opinion as to why this election has gone terribly wrong for the NDP. I'm not going to take comments on that analysis.
Well, it's been fun.
The next provincial election, and possibly even the next federal campaign, I'll be back (I can hardly wait to hear about the scary Stephen Harper). I may also show up as some alter ego on some other blog, but I haven't decided yet.
I'm going to keep my email account so feel free to send me any juicy political or labour propaganda.
To all those who took big risks to contribute to this blog, I thank you.
Thanks for dropping by. I hope you enjoyed the blog. It was a great experience...
Until we meet again.

An NDP Pedigree?
UPDATED - Bumped To Top
It has been confirmed that Will Hamilton, the Founder of the Saskatchewan Sign Kickers Party and Charles Hamilton, the Editor In Chief of the Sheaf (whose lovely anti-Sask Party piece can be found in the post entitled, From The People That Brought You Fellatio Jesus) are the nephews of Saskatoon Greystone NDP MLA Peter Prebble.
Mr. Prebble is not seeking re-election in the current provincial election.
As for one of my original post comments, "Do you think we could find a connection between the Hamilton family and either organized labour or the NDP?" would this little tidbit suffice?
In response to sunnyside's request that I apologize... I don't think so...
The Star Phoenix has confirmed that David Fodey (Aden Bowman Collegiate) Co-Captain of Destruction is indeed the nephew of Jim Fodey, the former NDP caucus chief of staff, who resigned in the wake of the NDP caucus office theft scandal that broke last summer...
(Didn't Jim tell young David how shabbily the NDP treated him in the end? Oh I forgot... The details of his resignation severance package were never released publicly by the NDP. Maybe he wasn't treated shabbily after all...)
From the comments on "Even the Score"
sunnyside said...
Since the beginning of the campaign, your sight has blamed the NDP for the sign wrecking shinnanigans. Now that is clear this was just a group of kids, are ready to apologize to the NDP, for saying this was a collabertive effort from the NDP.
From SDA regarding the same issue...
"In a case of the apple not falling far from.... the apple - " Do a search on Facebook for [U of Sask Sheaf Editor-In-Chief] Chuck Hamilton. View his friends, and you will see Will Hamilton is listed as his brother. I bet their parents are proud." (Or it was until Will's was pulled.)"
Commentary regarding that joyous little Sheaf article can be found here and here
You see, there is a pedigree here.
The fact is this particular Facebook site commented on the perception that there was three times as much money in the Sask Party campaign as there were others. Where would young Mr. Hamilton get this idea from? His studying of financial records for all three parties?
Also, one commenter actually took exception to the fact that his NDP sign was kicked in leads me to confidently state that these sign destructions are the work of NDP supporters and their proxies.
Do you think that coincidently, these two fine young brothers named Hamilton created their attitudes from reading the platforms of each party, reading the Communist Manifesto or Das Capital and each coming to their own individual conclusions?
Do you think we could find a connection between the Hamilton family and either organized labour or the NDP?
The one thing the Hamiltons did not teach their children is that they shouldn't out themselves in such a public manner. They have made quite a name for themselves in a very short amount of time.
One final observation from reader "slick" in the comments...
I can guarantee you that the parents of every one of those kids are CARD CARRYIN' NDP SUPPORTERS.
I couldn't have said it better...

I Suppose It's Better Than The Typical NDP Nazi Cartoon
From another NDP Boogeyman operative.
This picture of Brad Wall was in the Kevin Yates/Harry Van Mulligan campaign office in Regina. It was taken during Calvert's final media conference today.
And these guys were NDP ministers? Pathetic...

He's Just Not Trying Anymore - Redux
There is a stock radio ad playing right now on Newstalk650
It describes the NDP platform and ends with the necessary scare campaign against Brad Wall and the Sask Party.
At the end of the ad, there is a candidate mentioned with the constituency. The quote for the Premier is "In Saskatoon Riverdale, Vote for Lorne Calvert."
The problem is that the name of the constituency is Saskatoon Riversdale... with an "s".
The first time I heard this ad, I thought my hearing was off. Then I heard it again.
Newstalk650 was a big NDP buy. You would think that a) this was important enough to get right and b) since it is the Premier's constituency, that they would want to make sure no mistakes were made as it may reflect badly on him...
I don't care what celebrities the Premier may bring into the constituency, particularly since he avoids Riversdale like the plague for the other 3 years and 11 months of his term, but saying the name wrong in an ad is insulting to the citizens of that of community.
His handlers must be completely incompetent for letting something like this go...
No wonder there is a thought that the Sask Party candidate Fred Ozirney is leading in Saskatoon Riversdale...

Saskatchewan Sign Kickers = Rocket Surgeons
Evidently, the Saskatchewan Sign Kicking Party was seeking some revenge for the segment John Gormley did on his program yesterday. So they created this little Facebook group .
The name of the group is "john gormley should go f*** himself".
The picture of the man on the right is indeed John Gormley, but not the Newstalk650 John Gormley.
Rather, this John Gormley happens to be the Green Party leader and member of the National Parliament for Dublin South East.
So, not only did these future Rhodes Scholars record themselves performing criminal acts by vandalizing election signs and then posting those acts on Facebook, but when radio host John Gormley read on his show what these idiots publicly admitted to, they sought revenge by putting up a picture of Ireland's Green Party leader, with the words "I Love C**K" tattooed across his forehead.
These kids couldn't be dumber if they tried.
UPDATE - The original Facebook group is down, but thank God for screenshots...

Even The Score?
"Also we find it unfair that the Sask Party has 3 times the funding of any other party, so they get all the big signs. We seek to even this out."
Exactly, where are these young geniuses getting the information that the Sask Party has 3 times the funding of any other party? Studying financials?
They find it unfair? That says something, not about these kids, but about their "role" models...

UPDATE - A massive beatdown of these kids on John Gormley Live Beautiful...

Calvert's Desperate Celebrity Endorsement
One of the NDP Boogeyman's operatives has informed me that Tom Jackson, the First Nation's singer and actor is flying into Saskatoon to help campaign for the NDP. Evidently, Jackson is a "good friend" of Calvert's.
He is coming at the request of Calvert in an attempt to garner more First Nations support in the constituency of Riversdale.
This is not good news for the NDP...
- Historically, the First Nations of Saskatchewan voted Liberal federally and NDP provincially. This time however, there is a strong respect for Brad Wall and the Sask Party. This may be eroding NDP support from what they consider a core vote.
- Fred Ozirney with the Saskatchewan Party has run a surprisingly effective campaign in Riversdale. The odds are against them, but in the Devine sweep of 1982, even Riversdale was lost to the PC's (remember the gas pump jockey Joanne Zazelenchuk who defeated Roy Romanow?)
- If Calvert is taking time on the Sunday before the election to campaign with a core vote in his own constituency, what are HIS numbers saying? Is Tom Jackson a last ditch effort on Calvert's part to bring up his bruised and battered profile?
I used to think that Riversdale was a given for the NDP.
But with the NDP polling lower than they did in the PC sweep of 1982, Ozirney's efforts in the constituency, and Calvert bringing in a celebrity endorser to work with him on the Sunday before the election, are we looking at a potential upset here?
One can only dream...

He's Just Not Trying Any More
This is a screenshot of Lorne Calvert's Facebook page. It was sent to me yesterday by one of his "friends".
If you look at Lorne's status, as of yesterday is still says, "Lorne is getting ready for the debate", which I assume was set some time before last Tuesday's debate.
They're just not trying anymore...

Calvert - We Need To Scare Them More!
"Friends, I have it on good authority that Brad Wall and the Saskatchewan Party are in fact, cannibals and plan on eating your children if they are elected.
It has been learned that Brad Wall, with some of his unelected friends, actually went and saw a movie called "the Last King of Scotland".
The movie features, at its core, a story about a young doctor who becomes embroiled in a life and death struggle with the former Ugandan dictator, Idi Amin.
Now it turns out, that Mr. Amin, was found out to be a cannibal!
During the moviefilm, Mr. Wall and his friends were seen as laughing and actually enjoying themselves during horrific scenes.
Does this mean that Mr. Wall and his corporate friends enjoy acts of cannibalism on the screen? I submit to you that it does...
Now, I'm not sure if there were actually scenes of cannibalism in this movie, since Betty and I don't attend any movie higher than a G rating, but that is irrelevant.
Friends, the point is the evidence is overwhelming.
Only a New Democratic Party government can prevent the wholesale cannibalism of this beloved province and its future.
Only a New Democratic Party government, that has the lowest cost bundle of utilities anywhere in Canada, can protect your children from the extreme right-wing agenda of the Conservative Saskatchewan Party.
Do you want your children to be eaten like they eat children in Alberta?
I say emphatically, "No!"
Did I mention that Rolling Stones were in Regina last year?
On November 07th, I'm asking for your vote. Keep Saskatchewan safe from cannibalism and the extreme right wing agenda of the Saskatchewan Party. Vote for the New Democratic Party of Saskatchewan.

CUPE 1975 - Working To Ensure Workplace Safety
"We have been approached by employees who are members of CUPE 1975 who are afraid. They have reported bullying, harassment, intimidating behaviour and threats being made by union members against other members if they do not participate in job action," wrote Barb Daigle, U of S associate vice-president of human resources."
"Be careful walking down a dark alley at night if you don't support this job action, be careful crossing the picket line, we can't guarantee your personal safety' - those would be the physical threats," she said."The others would be more subtle forms of harassment and intimidation, like, 'We will ensure that you no longer have a job."
Two complaints, filed in writing by CUPE 1975 members, are being investigated by university administrators who are aware of more than a dozen instances of union members harassing, intimidating or bullying other union members, says Daigle.
You may remember the CUPE 1975 executive has had some previous concerns about its members.
Just another example of why the rank and file distrust the union brass and anyone they associate with...

From The Lefties That Brought You "Fellatio Jesus"
The University of Saskatchewan Sheaf has always been a magnet for left leaning students, many of whom work on NDP campaigns, become candidates for the NDP, or end up working in public office (because the real world is full of those damn profiteers).
The Sheaf, unfortunately, has also been a tremendous embarrassment to many students on the A&S campus. Remember the March 02/2006 Fellatio Jesus and the Capitalist Piglet?
On staff at that time was Charles Hamilton, who is now the editor-in-chief of the Sheaf. I've attached his cheery little leftist rant for you to examine regarding the Saskatchewan Party.
Chuck gives us;
- The Sask Party's platform on post secondary education is not only completely out of touch with the people and students of Saskatchewan (says who?), but is belligerent and offensive. (How is a platform belligerent?)
- The Sask Party believes that Saskatchewan is a crappy place to live, that all of our young people are moving away because there is no work and that the NDP has failed to "brand" Saskatchewan as a land of economic and cultural opportunity (nice run-on sentence, EIC). This is complete shit and is frankly offensive.
- This is not a shitty place to live. Trust me. (Chuck, the one thing you haven't earned is anyone's trust after this Pulitzer Prize winning editorial)
- We don't need the "most aggressive youth retention plan in Canada". (Then move!)
- Any platform that bribes young people to stay here is not only misguided, it is insulting.
- Any platform that is based on telling me how shitty this place is can fuck off and die. (You want a platform to fuck off and die? How does that work?)
Besides not being able to perform the basic English structure duties that should be second nature to an EIC, in typical leftist fashion, getting facts about the Saskatchewan Party's real position on advanced education and its respect for Saskatchewan would only interfere with his feelings.
Facts are not relevant to a good, left-wing obscenity laced rant.
Chuck, you got our attention. Although that may not be such a good thing...

CUPE Scare Tactics - Health Care
Among the gems in this document;
- "The Saskatchewan Party has not committed to publicly delivered health care." (The Saskatchewan Party has been very clear on publicly funded, publicly delivered health care. CUPE just doesn't care to listen)
- "The Saskatchewan Party will restructure health care." (Is that a bad thing?)
- "Governments in Western Canada simlar to the Saskatchewan Party have rolled back wages and slashed thousands of jobs." (They must be referring to Campbell's Liberal party in BC that was forced to make cuts after years of unencumbered spending by NDP governments. As a result of these moves, the province of BC is financially well again)
It would be nice if CUPE told the whole story. But I guess the truth doesn't matter when you are trying to scare your members.

The Candy Poll - Sask Party Homes More Generous Than NDP Homes
On the Murray Wood show today, Michelle Hugli was guest hosting when Ken from Saskatoon called in.
He relayed a story that happened to him as he was taking his kids out trick or treating last night.
After going door to door for a time, and without any prompting from Ken, the kids came up with the following conclusion; the houses that had the green signs (Sask Party) gave a lot more candy out that the houses with the orange signs (NDP).
Ahh, the wisdom of youth.
